Deodorants and Antiperspirants

A Safer Alternative

Ammonium Alum Deodorant

When summer heats up in many parts of the world that means an increase in the sale of deodorants and antiperspirants. What do you really know about these products, however? Let's examine a few facts:

1. Most deodorants simply have a synthetic perfume to mask the odor produced by the buildup of bacteria specifically in the underarm area. This doesn't stop the bacteria that cause the odor however.

2. Antiperspirants are designed to block the process of sweating. They do this in most cases by spraying out microscopic flakes of aluminum, known as aluminum chlorhydrate, which block the pores. Unfortunately, the aluminum also gets into the bloodstream, and ultimately stays in the body, where it accumulates, mostly in the brain and other vital areas (Please see HG page on Alzheimer's Disease). There is a better solution.

3. Mineral salts [pictured above] are available in many health food stores, and some pharmacies. They are made of ammonium alum,or potassium alum. This product looks like an almost clear stone, and it lasts up to one year. It is generally about the same price as a regular deodorant/antiperspirant, but as mentioned, lasts much longer. To use it you simply wet it, and rub it over the underarm area. Its effect normally lasts about 12 to 16 hours. It is a much better choice for your body, a better environmental statement, and is easier on the pocketbook also. It can be used by both men and women. There is more information on the Internet about this product. Wikipedia has information on it at:

Food Storage

This may seem to be a rather obvious suggestion, but nevertheless, it will be presented for those who have not considered this option.

When storing food, the best container for solids and liquids is GLASS. (As to why this is, please see the Health Glimpses page on Hormone Balancing.) Save your glass containers, and use them for storage of food and drink. Cancer-causing and hormone disrupting chemicals do not leach out of glass they way the do with plastic storage containers.

Insect Problems?

Cockroaches, known also as roaches, are one of the most abundant and widespread pests on earth. Unfortunately, spraying pesticides in the living area is not an intelligent solution, because many of these poisons can stay in the home up to 25 years, with each spraying adding another layer of poison. The same effects that these poisons exert on the insects, they exert on humans, though it just takes longer because of our size in relation to the insects. Insecticides attack the respiratory system and the nervous system, and damage to the nervous system is irreversible.

A much better solution to pesticide spraying is to use A 5% POWDER OF BORIC ACID, available in most pharmacies or feed stores. This concentration of boric acid is relatively non-toxic to humans, but it will dry out the roaches, as it will eat them out from the inside. Cockroaches have something in common with cats, in that they return to their nests and proceed to lick their legs. When boric acid is laid down in out-of-the-way places in the kitchen, such as alongside the refrigerator, etc., roaches will walk through it, and it will cling to their legs. As they lick themselves, they seal their own fate.

Heavy on the Salt?

If you are a heavy salt user it is very likely that you justify its use because food just has no taste without it. If this is you, it is very likely that your body is extremely deficient in a very essential mineral: zinc. Zinc affects the sense of smell, and if you can't smell your food you can't taste it; hold your nose are take a bite of food to prove this.

Zinc plays an extremely important role in the human body, yet most people in industrialized countries are very deficient in this essential mineral. This occurs because food processing pulls most of the zinc out of wheat and other foods. In addition, farming practices deplete it from the soil, and it is not replaced. Zinc is involved in more than 40 different enzyme processes in the body. In addition it is very important in removing chemical toxins from the body, and it is essential for male fertility. It is advisable to take it as multivitamin/mineral supplement, and not by itself, because taken alone, it removes copper, which is also essential for the body, to keep arteries and veins from hardening. Another excellent supplement is pictured here.
