Petra,
Jordan
The two pictures above were taken in the city of Petra, in Jordan, in 1999.
It is an amazing city built into the side of the mountain. It is now abandoned, but was once the home of the Nabatean
people who inhabited it many centuries ago. It is believed that they built their houses inside the mountain as a
better defense against invaders.

1991 to 1994 were my first years in the Kingdom. By
and large the students were a pleasure to work with, and were eager to learn English.

The
Camel, aka Dromedary
The camel is one amazing animal. Its body temperature actually rises
almost 10 degrees during the day so that it can withstand the soaring desert temperatures of more than 50 degrees centigrade
(around 120 degrees Fahrenheit)! It loses very little water, as it doesn't sweat, and contrary to popular belief, it
carries fat in the hump, as food, not water.

Where
it All Started
My interest in alternative medicine began at about
the age of 16. My sister was the greatest influence in this area, as she passed books to me that she had read.
The interest has continued over the years to include reading from diverse subject areas such as toxicology, ecology,
chemistry, nutritional biochemistry, biology, and a number of other areas. I believe that having pursued my own
interests in the study of health has afforded me a much greater latitude than that which a traditional program
of study in health science offers.

They say that the road of life has many twists and turns, and I'm
certain that we have all experienced this. My own case is no different. Over the years I have worked
in a number of universities and colleges, both private and public, in The U.S., Mexico, and the Middle East, teaching English, Spanish,
and a bit of French. This road of life has also taken me to a number of other stops, as a translator, medical writer/editor,
newspaper proofreader, and other areas. I have enjoyed studying a number of other languages, including
Portuguese and Arabic, and have just recently embarked on the study of Tagalog, the language of The Philippines. I
have come to a simple conclusion in this ongoing experiment of life in which we live, that this planet is
one amazing place, with an incredible diversity of people, places, foods, languages, cultures, and many other things,
all of which definitely require further investigation. See you there.................................................
